WHY EMDR? (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

When a person is angry or upset in some way their brain cannot process information the way it typically does. Difficult experiences or traumatic events can become “stuck” and remembering the event can seem as emotionally painful and overwhelming as it was the first time the event was experienced. Day to day stimulus such as smells, images, sounds, words, facial expressions and feelings can trigger memories from the traumatic event. These memories can affect the way a person perceives their world and their relationships.   EMDR can help the brain get ‘unstuck’ so that normal processing begins to take place again. EMDR helps individuals heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that results from difficult life experiences so that a person’s past is not negatively impacting their present.
